2007 Calendar Features Winning Photos from Glimpse's Spring 2006 Global Photography Contest

The Glimpse Foundation announces the grand-prize winner and 11 runners-up from its Spring 2006 Global Photography Contest, "It's All in the Family." The contest asked study abroad students and other international travelers to submit images depicting family life around the world. Amy Lee, a student at Bowdoin College, won the grand prize -- a $500 travel voucher from STA Travel -- for her photo, "Family Ties," which features a Maasai father and daughter in Kimana, Kenya.

Amy Lee is finishing her final year at Bowdoin College as a Sociology and Environmental Studies major and a Biology minor. She spent the first part of her semester in fall 2005 in Kenya with the School for Field Studies program and made her way further south to Australia studying with the School for International Training in spring 2006.

Lee says of the contest results, "I am extremely excited by this news. Words have escaped me. Otherwise, my response would be more articulate." Lee and the 11 runners-up are now featured in the Glimpse Foundation's 2007 calendar, which is available on Glimpse's website and in bookstores nationwide. All proceeds support the efforts of the 501(c)3 Glimpse Foundation to promote increased cross-cultural understanding and exchange by providing forums for students to share their experiences living abroad. The calendar is sponsored by Smugmug, a family-run online photo sharing company that offers unlimited photo storage and sharing.

Runners-up from the Spring 2006 Global Photography Contest include: Alex Stonehill; Carolyn Barnwell, Middlebury College; Molly Gazin, University of Colorado at Boulder; Chantell Hemmens; Scott Edwards, George Washington University; Ryan Evans, Western Illinois University; Giselle Aris, University of Pennsylvania; Justin Cox, Washington University; Susan Reynolds, Trinity University; Danielle Staymates; and Julia Tapper, University of Michigan.

The Glimpse Foundation offers two annual contests for students and other youth living abroad: a writing contest in the fall and a photo contest in the spring. The Foundation also publishes Glimpse Quarterly and GlimpseAbroad.org, which both feature first-person stories written by study abroad students and international volunteers, providing insight into the daily realities of life abroad.

The 501(c)3 Glimpse Foundation was established by Brown University students in November 2001, who began full-time production upon their graduation in May 2002 with generous seed funds from the National Geographic Society.
