A special grant from the Henry Luce Foundation aims to help the Glimpse Foundation provide forums for students and other young adults to share their international experiences through Glimpse's publication and website.

Providence, RI (PRWEB) July 27, 2006--On July 12, 2006, the 501(c)3 Glimpse Foundation received a special grant from the Henry Luce Foundation for general operating support, and specifically for providing forums for students and other young adults to share their international experiences through Glimpse's publication and website. The Glimpse Foundation promotes cross-cultural understanding and exchange, particularly between the United States and the rest of the world.

Higher education is a central focus for most of the Henry Luce Foundation's programs, with an emphasis on innovation and scholarship. Says Vice President Terrill Lautz, "We are delighted that the Luce Foundation can lend a hand in helping Glimpse to expand the international/global horizons of the next generation of students--and others--in the United States."

During an era when anti-Americanism is at an all-time high and countless countries view Americans as "arrogant, self-indulgent, hypocritical, inattentive and ... unwilling to engage in cross-cultural dialogue" (Council on Foreign Relations), the Glimpse Foundation provides venues for our country's younger generations to contextualize international news and to foster attentiveness, modesty and open-mindedness as culturally aware global citizens. Through compelling creative nonfiction, Glimpse contributors--largely study abroad students and international volunteers--draw from their personal experiences to provide insight into the daily realities of life abroad.

GlimpseAbroad.org currently offers a database of over 400 articles from almost 100 countries, as well as a growing library of blog posts, "Ask the Expert" peer-to-peer communication features, and a PDF guide series about living and studying abroad. The series addresses such topics as Culture Shock, Language Learning and American Identity Abroad, and is built on anecdotes, statistics and advice culled from hundreds of survey responses from study abroad students across the country.

Glimpse Quarterly is primarily distributed through newsstands and through colleges and universities across the country, with a current circulation of 15,000. According to Harvard Director of International Programs Jane Edwards, Glimpse Quarterly "is the best publication dedicated to student experience abroad." The 501(c)3 Glimpse Foundation was established by Brown University students in November 2001, who began full-time production upon their graduation in May 2002 with seed funds from the National Geographic Society.
