New Board Chair and Board Members to Steer Glimpse Foundation's Expansion


WASHINGTON (Jan. 24, 2008) -- Chris Liedel, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for the National Geographic Society, has been named Chair of the Glimpse Foundation's Board of Trustees. This new leadership will help the Foundation strengthen its burgeoning relationship with the National Geographic Society, tap into new business networks and expand its constituency.

Additional new board members include Vanessa Haas, Adviser to the International Criminal Court; Yasmin Vossoughian, Chief World Poll correspondent for The Gallup Organization; Margaret Crotty, President & CEO of AFS-USA; Keith Bellows, Vice President of the National Geographic Society and Editor in Chief of National Geographic Traveler magazine; Richard Babcock, Editor in Chief of Chicago Magazine; Mikela Tarlow, author and storytelling consultant; and Barbara Rehm, former Managing Editor for National Public Radio.

The Glimpse Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that fosters cross-cultural understanding and exchange, particularly between the United States and the rest of the world, by providing forums for sharing the experiences of young adults living and studying abroad. It publishes a Web site and print magazine that feature first-person stories from students and other

Liedel has served as CFO for National Geographic since 1997 and is chair of the National Philanthropic Trust and its investment committee.

In June 2007 Glimpse embarked on a close partnership with the National Geographic Society, which has entailed both in-kind and cash support, mentorship and the relocation of Glimpse from Providence, RI, to the Society's headquarters in Washington, D.C.
